Just outside Krakow lies one of the world’s oldest working salt mines, and one of the first twelve sites ever added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, back in 1978. The Wieliczka Salt Mine has been worked continuously since the 13th century, and today its historic Tourist Route opens a part of that underground world to visitors.

From Krakow, the drive to Wieliczka takes about 45 minutes each way, and the guided tour itself – roughly 2 to 3 hours, depending on the route and how busy the day is – takes you nearly 2 kilometres through corridors and chambers up to 135 metres underground.

How long does the whole Wieliczka trip take, from hotel to hotel?
